I was a part of Ottawa Volunteer Fire
Department in Ottawa, Ohio for 4 years as chaplain and firefighter. I achieved Ohio Firefighter Level II. I was able to drive and operate both the pumper and heavy rescue vehicle (below) at the station I was assigned.
I hosted a Firefighter's Sunday at the church I served during Fire
Prevention Week. When
I left Ottawa, the firefighters presented me with a clock inscribed:
Christy Ramsey
Firefighter & Chaplain
Ottawa Fire Division
1993-1998

My favorite ride was Rescue 108. Ottawa firefighters served 1/2 of the
county for auto accidents, tornado warnings, entrapment, emergency
lighting, accidents, emergency medical assistance, and law
enforcement support.

From a letter from an Assistant Chief when I moved from Ottawa -
I just wanted to say that you have been and will be missed...
You stood up for what was right, even though it cost something
very dear to you. You spoke the truth when many people did not want to
hear it. Your convictions and the guts to stick to them have been an
example to me and have made me take a good look at myself as an
officer and a person. I hope I have the same moral courage you
displayed whether it pertains to Fire Department issues or everyday
life. In my eyes, you have been a shining example of moral and
physical courage, good character, strength, dedication, compassion and
sacrifice, everything a good firefighter is made of...The truth is,
that you were a good Chaplain, a good firefighter and a good friend,
and I am proud to have served with you. Thank you for your years of
dedicated service to our community for your guidance and prayers and
especially, for your friendship.
