     | | What People Are Saying...

        | Here is an email written to me by
        Sue Washburn, a Sunday School
teacher and youth leader at Delmont Presbyterian Church as I ended my
        service there.
          | | First of
all, you are such an encouraging leader and role model. I really
admire the way you value ideas, allow ownership and give positive
encouragement to people who are willing to try something new. It
allows for growth at so many levels within the church and provides
motivation for everyone (well, everyone who doesn’t feel
threatened). As someone who gets bored easily, this is refreshing.
On a more personal level, I find that you bring an
honest vitality to faith that I haven’t experienced before. You make
it something to live rather than something to ponder from the pew.
More importantly, you manage to do it without overwhelming
earnestness, sappy sentimentality or condescending judgment. Your
approach feels fresh, straightforward and comfortable. I will miss
that.   | A card given to me by an elementary aged child  as I ended my
service at Delmont Presbyterian Church. (She gave me a tie too!)
          | | I would
really like to say Good Bye and I will really miss you! You were a
great help to me and the whole church. I wish you luck wherever you
are going. I think the church you are going to is very lucky!
I wish you could stay with us but I understand
that you can't. I really enjoy your sermon and when you tell jokes!
Thank-you for doing the children's message because I like it. I'll
miss you! Bye. Your friend (signed)   | A senior citizen wrote me this note included in a gift of a crochet
        blanket.
          | | You will
be missed. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricksbut
many of your sermons allowed me other thoughts than mine.
Your gift of words has surrounded me—and I hope my
gift of a crochet will surround you. | | |
